CITYSEARCH REBUTTAL

First of all I'm curious why you title your review, "Not QUITE WHAT I EXPECTED" (by the way you forgot to capitalize the "ot" in Not) when you speak nothing of any personal experiences with our establishment. You’re simply stating opinions about an existing review.

How do you infer I'm biased when I don't state any opinions that glamorize our bar???  My 16 years here and over 20 in the Service Industry simply gives me the right to speak on a subject that I would be deemed an expert on.

As for your third comment, (which is poorly written and difficult to understand) I never refer to any customer as an idiot (except the firefighter in the upcoming paragraph). I simply stated we have no tolerance for them so if you are one please bring your manners when you come here. You clearly show your lack of life experience and certainly running a bar. Although we rarely have as much as a scuffle, any establishment that serves alcohol is undoubtedly going to face a hiccup here and there. Unfortunately, not everyone is good at drinking. In the "liquor business" the customer is NOT always right. That's precisely why we have to cut people off.

Also, while you’re attempting to give me business advice I would like to challenge you to prove you’ve been employed at an overwhelmingly successful business that has been established for over 35 years and show me you have close to 17 years of personal experience in that same business.  I won't hold my breath and McDonald's doesn’t count! Until then, keep the business advice or lack thereof to yourself.

Of course it's our responsibility to cut people off, but it's also an individual’s responsibility to know their limits. Fortunately we have enough experience to help most patrons if that line is blurred. No bar is perfect however.  People don't have a little meter above their heads registering their blood alcohol levels. I will remind you that one beer can put some individuals over the legal limit to drive. It is impossible to monitor every single person. Take some responsibility!

As for the "Downey Fire Dept. Night", get the facts straight! That started because the Battalion Chief decided he wanted to STAND ON OUR BAR three separate times to "look cool for the fellas' " (setting a great example!). After we repeatedly told him to stop, 21 firefighters and approximately 10 friends, that's right, close to 30 guys challenged 5 security guards to try to throw them out (real tough guys, 30 on 5, lol). We had no choice but to attempt to remove them for the safety of the other customers. The fact that we had to throw out at least 30 individuals is the reason I had to get physically involved. Even with 30 on 6 we only came out with a few stitches from a bottle and a couple bruises. Lot’s of property damage and loss of revenue though.  And by the way, I was being held from behind by two guys when the third hit me… talk about P****S! They should stick to getting cats out of trees! Since that's the only major problem we've had in over 35 years, then yes, I do think the bar is safe. Also, if you don't think the Battalion Chief standing on our bar is idiotic, then YOU ARE an idiot as well.

The D.A. didn’t simply refuse to pursue the charges dumb a**. There was a lot involved. The main reason was, we were not so much seeking criminal charges as we wanted the handful of firefighters we could I.D. TERMINATED from employment.  The D.A. had a hard time ending a firefighter’s career over it. Ya', that's kinda' hard to understand, a city protecting a city employee's job! NO WAY!?  We felt it was shameful for individuals who were supposedly sworn to render aid and assistance to the community to act with such disregard for human well being. Everything was going fairly well until we insisted on termination. At least know what you’re talking about before you make a comment on it. You also might not be aware that the same group ransacked another bar down south but the city eventually covered that up as well. If there is any doubt as to the fact that there were 21 named firefighters and at least 10 others involved in that incident, go get a copy of the report and READ IT.  The other circumstances that made it difficult for the D.A. to prosecute was the fact that it’s hard to accurately I.D. everyone involved when you’re getting jumped by 30 guys. Also, to be honest, since we never really had any previous problems our surveillance system was not up to par.  Won’t have that trouble now though!

Like I said, we love law enforcement. It keeps us safe when their on duty and they spend a lot of money when their off. Thanks guys! There's a reason we play host to almost every Dept. from Riverside to L.A. If you have any experience with cops, they don't frequent establishments they're not comfortable in. Running into some guy you put behind bars is a "buzz-kill".

As any of the locals will tell you The Canyon Inn is a no nonsense place to get a good drink, relax, eat a juicy steak and listen to some great tunes. The nine "flatscreens" and 72" Bigscreen don't hurt either. I think the fact that we're packed almost every day of the week, 365 days a year speaks for itself. You'll always be greeted with a smile and the utmost respect.  Just because we don't tolerate bad attitudes, impatience, or people puking all over our bar doesn't mean you can't cut loose, dance and have a great time. We simply ask that you treat us the way you would like to be treated, as any business would. Just bring your manners and leave the attitude at the door. Fortunately the positive comments far outweigh the negative, so YOU'RE the minority. If I thought you're comments were even remotely relevant, I would investigate things in a heart beat. Our huge group of regulars come here because they appreciate the safe-friendly environment.

As for you Ms. Ratatouile, if you have any more questions about our policies or would like to submit a suggestion, either do some homework or introduce yourself. You can always come in and talk to me personally. You obviously know who I am. You don't need to hide behind a Citysearch review like a RAT...atouile.

                                 2nd. CITYSEARCH REBUTTAL

Why would my rebuttals be deemed unprofessional?  I’ve invested a lot of blood, sweat and tears helping make the Canyon Inn so successful and I will defend it to the end. It also gives me a chance to clear up misconceptions about the bar such as the “firefighter incident”. Misconceptions spread by people such as yourself that simply regurgitate misinformation without even trying to establish real facts. Similar to those who argue with us till there blue in the face that we are not located in Yorba Linda. Like we don’t know what city our own bar is located in? And I like the comment about sales declining after the ownership change. Do you even think before you post this stuff?  That statement is so ridiculous it’s hard to even respond. That’s why one of the biggest complaints even on the Citysearch reviews is how packed we are every night? I mean seriously, are you just pulling this out of your a**? Did you even read our menu before you commented on it???  HELLO… WE HAVE A FOUR PAGE MENU including steaks, burgers and even brunch! Ya’, it’s just a bunch of fried food. Are you for real?

In my many years at the Canyon I’ve met a ton of wonderful, interesting people. I’ve also met a small percentage of unhappy souls who wouldn’t smile if you gave them solid gold French Fries. My seventeen years as part of one of Orange County’s most successful bar/restaurants has not given me seventeen years experience in the third grade (whatever that means), it’s taught me and everyone involved at the Canyon a successful formula for running a “top-tier” establishment. I think we can all guess who’s living in the third grade considering you spelled your own screen name wrong. Glad to see you finally got it right. You still haven’t related even one bad personal experience at our bar. I absolutely despise this word, but you’re a “HATER” by definition.

Once again, the Canyon invites happy-fun loving people to come have some great food, hear some great bands and DJ’s, catch a game and simply have a great time. We’re packed almost every night with a great crowd for a reason. However, we cannot stress this enough; we absolutely will not tolerate attitudes, impatience, or any disrespect for our bar, our patrons or our staff. If you fall into any of these categories you will no doubt be writing a negative review of our bar on Citysesrch the next morning like “Ratatouille”, “EKS”, “Hamjakler”, “Benfrankie” and probably another couple handfuls of obnoxious-morons that have been thrown out of our bar over the years.

As for you Ms. Ratatouille, the offer still stands. Come out of your rat-hole and discuss your grievances in person like an adult. I’ll even buy ya’ a couple beers (or Shirley Temples) and listen to everything you think we should change about our bar and our bad attitudes. If not, please stop your ignorant attacks on a bar it doesn’t even seem like you’ve even been in. Stick to writing positive reviews about whatever “cool” bar you like hangin’ out in, that treats you special.
